Father’s Day will soon be here ! Spend Sunday, June 15th at the Whippany Railway Museum and treat someone special to an outing he won’t soon forget aboard the Museum’s vintage excursion train. Board our beautifully appointed Club Cars and embark on a 10-mile, 45-minute, round trip excursion through Morris County.
Dad is sure to enjoy time with his family while being whisked back to another era – a day trip that will create memories for all ! Step back through the decades as you travel the route of “The Whippanong Trail”. Back at Whippany, be sure to visit the Museum building with its Gift Shop, and historic exhibits, with hundreds of artifacts on display. There’s also an operating Lionel O gauge model railroad in operation.
It’s a fun, old-fashioned, relaxing way of spending a Sunday afternoon with Dad! All ticket holders receive a special keepsake from the Museum!
Also on Father’s Day, come and take part in the Grand Opening of the “Alan S. Wishengrad Pavilion” at 12 Noon. The exhibits inside are dedicated to the memory of Alan Wishengrad, who was a long time, energetic, dedicated volunteer member of the Whippany Railway Museum. Alan was also a devoted train collector and built an extensive operating model railroad layout at his home.
In 2023, Alan decided to part ways with his collection, so he was excited about the thought that some of his items could live on at the Whippany Railway Museum. The idea and planning for this exhibit started well before his unexpected and sudden passing in July 2024. Alan had amassed a wide-ranging variety of railroad models, including early-20th Century cast iron trains, wind-up trains, Lionel, Ives, Marx and American Flyer trains, as well as models from England, Germany, Czechoslovakia and even Russia.

Our Central Railroad of New Jersey club car ‘Jersey Coast’ is a beautiful conveyance that features all the amenities offered by the CNJ’s deluxe Blue Comet passenger train of the 1930s.
Advance tickets are ONLY available through the Museum’s Internet ordering process and not at any other location or mail-order/web site. You can order online up to 2 hours before departure time. No refunds on prepaid tickets. Any remaining tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis on each operating day starting at Noon. Ride, schedule, equipment and ticket availability subject to change without notice.
Ticket price includes admission to the Museum grounds, Museum building which houses historical railroad, steam ship memorabilia display, operating model trains, and gift shop. The Museum is open from Noon to 4 PM on ride days.
Our Excursion Train Rides are part of a fundraising effort to benefit the Museum, a non-profit organization comprised of New Jersey-related rail and transportation equipment and artifacts, staffed by volunteers. Donations from the public help to keep the Museum operational, but funds are still needed to support this unique New Jersey treasure. Proceeds from the excursions further enhance the Museum’s Mission and its Historic Preservation efforts.
