Visit the Whippany Railway Museum on Sunday, May 18th and ride one of our historic preservation trains as we celebrate our 60th anniversary !
The Museum traces its roots back to May 9, 1965 when the Morris County Central Railroad (MCC) began operating steam-powered excursion trains out of Whippany, NJ. At the same time, the Museum’s predecessor organization was founded.
Museum volunteers have worked hard to bring some of New Jersey’s storied rail cars back to life, and we present a unique heritage railroad experience in our special corner of New Jersey!
To celebrate our 60th anniversary, the Museum is offering – for one day only (May 18th) – a discount for our various classes of passenger accommodations!
To help mark the occasion, all passengers will receive a commemorative Morris County Central RR keepsake. The train ride is a 10-mile, 45-minute round trip. Back at Whippany, be sure to visit the Museum building with its Gift Shop, and historic exhibits, with hundreds of artifacts on display. There’s also an operating Lionel O gauge model railroad in operation.

Passengers don’t just experience the train ride; they step into a world of America’s travel options from 100 years – or more – ago. That authenticity is part of the charm of the Whippany Railway Museum’s excursion trains – the Museum has a distinct niche with its vintage train that allows us to be a bit different from the rest.
We look forward to your visit on May 18th as we look back on 60 years of historic railroad preservation at Whippany!
